Engagement and Training

Sometimes our clients raise questions that we can research without travel costs—and with a minimum of phone time. We’re proud of our ability to work behind the scenes as needed. But more often, the energy business today requires engagement, not only with our clients, but also with other industry players—program staff or trade allies, policy stakeholders or the public. Cliburn and Associates, LLC has the range of engagement skills and experience that many of our clients have found indispensible. And frankly, this is a part of our work that we really enjoy.
  • Developing and managing collaborative work groups, especially cross-disciplinary groups needed to resolve today’s most challenging issues.
  • Facilitating stakeholder participation, on projects initiated by non-utility as well as utility players or interest groups.
  • Employing a workshop process in developing the research agenda, reviewing preliminary findings, or delivering and discussing results.
  • Giving powerful presentations, in brief or full-length, to support client or industry needs.
  • Preparing professional training development and presentations, from half-day formats to full curricula, to on-line courses and toolkits.
Jill Cliburn has provided literally hundreds of trainings and presentations over the course of her career, including developing and co-teaching seminal “On Target” demand-side program trainings for the Association of Energy Services Professionals  (AESP) and developing and co-teaching AESP’s award-winning utility marketing series. Her New View on Energy Efficiency training toolkit, developed for American Public Power Association (APPA) provided the foundation for APPA to develop its current energy efficiency professional certification program. More recent training course development, funded by the Alliance to Save Energy, focused on the emerging area of behavioral strategies to affect energy use. Her CD-based toolkit on solar water heating program design and implementation has been circulated nationwide. And she has managed a long-running webinar series for Clean Energy Ambassadors, a regional energy program.

If you are thinking about scheduling a presentation, facilitating a process, or training in any aspect of energy services, please give use a call.

We have documented a process for applying case study research to reduce program design and marketing costs, while avoiding the pitfalls of mapping one community’s experiences directly on to another’s.
